One of the most notable features of our worship service is the music at St. John’s. The Soprano-Alto-Bass choir performs at the Sunday services under the Music Director. The Minister coordinates with the Music Director, complementing the service of the week with beautiful music. Performing occasionally is the Double Treble ensemble (made up of members and non) and the Praise Team (made up of members), which provide traditional and contemporary music. Our groups often perform with other church singers in the further community to produce cantatas and special choral presentations. At Easter, we join neighbouring churches in the Good Friday and Sunrise Service. These longstanding traditions are loved by all.
In 2021, during the pandemic, the choir participated in an online Choral Festival sponsored by the United Church of Canada. They came in first place in the Online Ministry Awards – Best Virtual Choir, performing Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus. This was a great accomplishment for the choir members as they diligently performed weekly through the online format, recording themselves singing. The technical team then spliced their voices together with the accompaniment.
St. John’s music ministry extends beyond the church building as the choir has competed in the Midland Y Music Festival, performed a Cantata in support of the Food Grains Bank, Sara Vista Long Term Care Facility, and a virtual performance at the Martyr’s Shrine in Midland, Ontario. Our piano fundraising event – You Asked for It – brought community members together to raise funds to purchase a new piano for the sanctuary. Voices United for Ukraine also brought the Springwater community to the church to raise funds and awareness of the war and devastation affecting Ukraine and the Ukrainian peoples.
